When “AI” becomes “Apple Intelligence”: an Apple Innovation

Mathieu Clairet . 4 months

Apple has made a significant leap by introducing generative artificial intelligence at the heart of its operating systems. “This goes beyond artificial intelligence; it’s personal intelligence, and it’s the next big step for Apple“, Tim Cook announced at WWDC 2024 three days ago, even transforming the acronym “AI” to “Apple Intelligence.” Smart.

Apple Intelligence aims to become an AI system described as a “personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that combines powerful generative models with personal context.”

This promise appears credible, especially since Apple has secured an agreement with OpenAI. “Access to ChatGPT is integrated into Siri and writing assistance tools across all Apple platforms, allowing users to tap into its expertise and its abilities to understand images and documents without switching between tools,” Apple explains.

But what are the new features offered by Apple Intelligence?

The term encompasses Apple’s long-term vision to add generative artificial intelligence to its products to automate complex tasks. In its first version, Apple Intelligence will introduce several new features, expected to be added to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia starting next fall.

  • Siri becomes smarter
  • Siri adapts to your personal life
  • ChatGPT integrated into platforms
  • A smart text editor
  • Intelligent notifications
  • Smarter emails
  • A smart recorder
  • A magic eraser
  • A magic pen
  • Videos of your memories
  • Introduction of Genmoji 🤪🤨🥸
  • An image generator
  • The Phone app can now record a call, transcribe it, and summarize it.

By crossing this new threshold, Apple is not just following the AI trend but pushing it further, making our technological interactions not only more efficient but also more personal and contextually relevant.

Stay tuned.
